Forced Empathy (Socks XXIII)

Dad drew a glass of water and noticed that Lar had been moved. He picked him up, seeing the bite mark on his heel and the black rice kernels next to the toaster.
He rummaged in a drawer and set a trap.
"Mom, you've got more mending to do. Those damn mice are back."
"Not again."
Lar got put on the couch next to Rar .
"Sorry that I ditched you when your toe was hurtin', Rar."
"That's alright, Bro. How's the heel?"
"Hurts. Like a son-of a-bitch."
"Mom will fix you, she's good. Look at my toe, it feels great."
