The Tenor (Socks CLXVIII)

Pretty slid the basket back in it's place, and left the house.
Rar had hoped to get to take a swim.
"I thought we were getting in the washer."
"Me too, Brother."
In the corner of the bedroom, in the basket the Twins, a tee shirt, Boxer, and two brassieres talked about their jobs.
The bra with the higher more delicate voice, the pink one, just did her job to the best of her ability without passion.
But Blackie, according to Tee, would sing like Pavarotti all day long when he was on duty.
Rar was confused, "What's a Pavarotti?"

Appointment (Socks CLXVII)

Grunter moved around the house doing his daily routine. He kissed Pretty on the forehead and left.
Pretty sat on the edge of the bed while the sound of The Early Show came from the TV in the living room. She took the cordless phone next to the bed from the hook, leaving a message for "Mick Jagger" to call her back.
The phone rang as she was carrying the clothes basket out of the bedroom door.
"Did you follow him last night?"
*
"Sorry, I forgot that you won't talk on the phone."
*
"Sure, I'll be there in thirty minutes."

Snoring (Socks CLXVI)

Frank continued to explain that no one else in the office knew that Kathy was his niece.
"It keeps things neater. No accusations of favoritism. Besides one more semester, and she'll graduate."
Grunter drove home, Pretty was in bed when he got there. His clothes ended up in a pile five feet from the basket. Again.
Momentarily, Grunter's breathing got rhythmic. Pretty got up and went to the other room. She didn't come back all night.
The alarm sounded, Grunter walked out, and from the other room, "Why did you sleep out here?"
"You were snoring, and I couldn't sleep."

Nervous (Socks CLXV)

Rar noted to Lar that Grunter had started sweating again.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Petersen. I didn't mean..."
"Let that be a lesson. Know your audience before speaking."
"I will, sir."
"I notice that when you get nervous, you forget to call me Frank."
"I'm sorry, Mr. Pet...Frank."
Frank put his hand on the younger man's shoulder, "Take it easy. I wouldn't care what you do, or with whom, but Kathy is my wife's sister's daughter."
"I see, sir."
"Kathy is, shall we say, no angel. But I will not answer to my wife, or sister-in-law, for what Kathy does here."

A Good Reason (Socks CLXIV)

"Let me suggest that you decline her offer."
Grunter got out of the car, "I will, if you say so."
"I do. And thank you for being so agreeable."
Frank smiled, stuck his hand out, and shook Grunter's, "You will stay away from Kathy, without even asking why?"
"Anything you want, Frank."
"I don't want you to go along just because I'm your boss."
"What, you want her for yourself? It doesn't matter, Frank. There is plenty of p^$$! to be had."
"That's not it, my boy." Frank stared directly in Grunter's eyes, "It seems that Kathy is my niece."

Late Night Meeting (Socks CLXIII)

Before Grunter could start his car, the headlights of the car behind him turned on. The outline of a man walking toward Grunter was visible in the driver's side mirror.
Frank tapped on the window.
"You scared me Frank."
"Sorry, didn't mean to. I was talking on the phone when you came out, so I waited."
"Did you need me to do something?"
"No, but when I saw you I decided to tell you something tonight instead of waiting till tomorrow."
"What's that?"
"I saw Kathy hold your hand back in your office."
"Yea, she invited me for a beer."

Kathy's Method (Socks CLXII)

Kathy stepped out of the door, "I'll have to escort you out, Frank. I'm not sure you can be trusted alone."
"Hurry up, my wife was being friendly," then Frank said something unintelligible.
"You're telling me more than I really need to know, Frank."
Grunter typed, clicked a few more times, then shut the computer down.
Kathy was at the front desk, "Where's John?"
"Bathroom."
Grunter held up his badge, "Good enough?"
"Sorry, again."
"I'm going to hold you to that beer."
"Sure. Most nights I get out at eleven, and when I go out, I stay for last call."
